Cupping Therapy

Decompression & Recovery

What Is Cupping Therapy?

Cupping is a decompression therapy that uses suction to lift the skin and underlying tissue away from deeper structures. Unlike massage, which compresses tissue inward, cupping creates space, helping stagnant areas receive fresh blood flow and oxygen. The result is often a noticeable release of tightness and a feeling of lightness in the treated area.

Dr. Melnick uses cupping as part of an integrated treatment plan, not as a standalone gimmick. It pairs well with adjustments, myofascial release, and rehab exercises when muscles are chronically tight or recovering from intense training.

Who Can Benefit?

What to Expect

Cups are placed on clean skin and left in position for several minutes, or moved gently along the muscle depending on your needs. Suction intensity is adjusted for comfort. You may see temporary circular marks afterward. These are not bruises from trauma, but a normal response to increased blood flow under the skin. They typically fade within a few days.

Most people find cupping relaxing and report improved range of motion after a session. It is a safe, effective add-on when combined with a thorough assessment of why the tissue was tight in the first place.
