Myofascial Release
Connective Tissue RestorationWhat Is Myofascial Release?
Myofascial release is a hands-on manual therapy that targets the fascia, the web of connective tissue that surrounds and supports muscles, organs, and joints throughout the body. When fascia becomes restricted from injury, posture, stress, or repetitive movement, it can limit mobility and create pain that does not show up on imaging.
Dr. Melnick applies sustained, gentle pressure into areas of restriction and waits for the tissue to release naturally. This is not a quick "dig in and move on" approach. It respects the body's pace and often produces lasting change in how you move and feel.
Who Can Benefit?
- Chronic neck, shoulder, or low back tightness that keeps returning
- Postural strain from long sitting, driving, or device use
- Scar tissue or stiffness after surgery or old injuries
- Restricted breathing or rib cage mobility
- Athletes with movement limitations that stretching alone has not resolved
What to Expect
After assessing your movement and palpating areas of restriction, Dr. Melnick applies direct pressure to the affected fascia and holds until the tissue softens, often several minutes per area. The sensation is a gradual melting or unwinding rather than sharp pain. Many people feel taller, lighter, or more open afterward.
Myofascial release works best as part of a complete plan that includes adjustments, movement retraining, and home strategies. At The Spine Studio, soft tissue work and functional rehab go hand in hand so improvements stick.
